Ace Combat Meets Gundam With A Touch Of Virtual On
Project Nimbus is a Steam Early access title from GameCrafterTeam, an indie dev team out of Thailand. I saw it for sale last week, a few things ran through my mind as I looked at the store page. First I thought, "this looks a lot like Virtual On." Second, "I was like, man this game looks great." Third "this game is still in alpha!?" I snagged it for like eleven bucks on sale and was not disappointed. It's funny sometimes you just get lucky. But hey, my gain is also your gain it seems.
Enough introspective reflections about Steam sales, on to discussing the game; Project Nimbus is in early stages of game development. There's not much in terms of plot, not much in terms of cutscenes, not much to really know what's going on at all really. But hey, when it comes to fighting robots, right now and especially going forward this game has you covered. With a challenging campaign and some really clever weapon designs. Something that seems like it's overpowered when you first get it simply become another tool that you have to abuse to hopefully squeak by when the sky fills with your enemies.
Speaking of the sky, Project Nimbus is like if Ace Combat and Virtual On got together, but kept talking about Afterburner Climax; so much is happening all the time it's absolutely frantic. Your mech may be overpowered as hell at first, but keep getting swarmed by lesser ones and you'll find yourself running as fast as you can hoping your weapons cool down in time. Game play wise, that frantic nature of mech combat mixed with some really clever weapons can make this a game to look out for. Visually it's not amazing, but again it's in alpha there's still a lot of work to be done on it. But, if it was left as it is now it's still leagues ahead of many indie titles I see these days in terms of polish. If anything about this tickled your fancy, you can follow the game on their steam page here.
It is currently on sale for 25% off as an early access title.
