Destiny Alpha Impressions

Bungie takes it up a notch with Destiny

The PS4 alpha launched and people are all a buzz about the new sci-fi FPS. Welp, some folks can’t play it yet. Here’s a bit to whet your appetite as the retail release draws near.

Destiny, is in two words best described as Halolands Effect. With a blend of the combat of Halo, the leveling and RPG style engagements of Borderlands and the visual style of Mass Effect.

It all rolls together in a post apocalyptic, world where deep dark places are inhabited by all sorts of baddies that provide a challenging and engaging threat to your character as you traverse what’s left of Earth.

The combat is where this game shines, I took a shine to long range weapons and while pray and spray works well enough, the game is all about making your shots count. There is a super meter system, which can make the most lame, dinky pea shooter into a weapon of mass destruction. Think, insta gib with a cool down time.

It’s a whole lot of fun in multiplayer. Taking away the old, problem in Halo i.e. “you shoot the dude in the face a bunch of times, he ran away and now his shields recovered.”

The problem is solved simply by, “I shot a dude a bunch of times, he ran away and his shields recovered… LOLJK I have meter, eat my yellow sun fueled, photon death bullets, kthxbai.” Which can make anyone on the field an absolute monster when used properly.

I have to say, this game is pretty boss.
