EPSN President Dismisses eSports News…Despite ESPN Already Airing eSports

Because everybody knows that Poker is a “real sport”.

On Thursday during the Code/Media Series: New York conference, ESPN President John Skipper was asked to comment on Amazon’s recent acquisition of Twitch, the video game streaming and eSports  staple. Despite the  ESPN networks airing the Dota 2 World Championship less than three months ago, responded that he was mainly interested in “real sports”.

According to re/code, Skipper stated how he felt about Twitch purchase and eSports in general:

“It’s not a sport — it’s a competition. Chess is a competition. Checkers is a competition. Mostly, I’m interested in doing real sports.

Not everyone sees competitive gaming as sport and that’s fine. But since ESPN aired The International back in June, one would think the ESPN President would be more engaged. And let’s not forget their coverage of the World Series of Poker.
