Frame Trapped Is Now In Open Beta
PC gaming, the great digital frontier, the greatest way to game ever, "mods bro, mods!" These are often the things you hear about PC v. console gaming whenever ideological skirmishes pop up on youtube comments and forums and the like. But, as awesome as mods can be, it's not often that one finds a piece of freeware that not only enhances your gameplay experience. It enhances your core understanding of the game, the engine, and all that you can use to your advantage.
Enter Frame Trapped, it's a freeware trainer for Ultra Street Fighter 4. You might ask, "what does this do that I can't do by looking at a frame data chart and hitbox images?" It's quite simple really, at its core Frame Trapped gives you real time access to the debug data and hitboxes at work in the game as you play it. It's not like you are looking at some sort of simulation or estimation, it's everything that's happening in the game, available and documented.
Some might say "well yeah, whatever, I am used to using my charts" well, guess what there bub; you're missing out on the beauty of real time frame data. It allows you to test all sorts of new tech. It's more than just being able to see what links into what. Meaty setups, reversal baits, safe jumps, spacing dependent safe setups. They can all be measured with exacting precision in Frame Trapped. It's a no questions, no argument, breakdown of metadata at work in SF4.
There are a number of other cool features available, free camera controls (sounds ancillary but it's actually pretty cool). More importantly though there are two very useful tools that go far beyond what's in training mode. First is the auto reversal tool, which allows you to test some genuinely dirty setups. FrameTrapped reads the frame data directy from the game and triggers reversal inputs at the very first instance they are possible. This means no more guesswork no more sitting there with a second stick at your feet; no more mashing DP on record mode wondering if you got it right. It's right there in black and white, clear as day. It's frame perfect reversal timed punishes based off the data in real time. Second is the auto combo tool which allows you to program a set combo or frame trap to look for holes, and see the frame data in real time.
Best part of it all, is it's now in open beta, meaning all these tools are now at your disposal. Tom Piddock and his team have taken a big step forward on the long road to a finished product. Please do bear in mind that Frame Trapped is only compatible with the PC version of Ultra Street Fighter 4.
