Greatness Is Here: PS4 2.0

I got the PS4 at launch, and simply I had fun with it but I was disappointed; There were fun games, yeah Resogun was great as a freebie and the indie titles coming out were sweet. But the PS4 felt like it was in a prolonged early access beta for most of 2014.
The sterile and boring blue background that every PS4 owner had, the seemingly endless repetition of “Coming Soon” and “We’re working on it” were becoming the norm. It was bleak, we looked over at our multi-colored Xbox One brethren and felt saddened. But this is no more, we have themes now and they’re pretty cool. I undervalued how much a small bit of personality can make something feel less like a dev kit and more like something that is truly yours.
USB music was one of those things that also was lacking, the ability to play music from a flash drive is a welcome addition. It is again a feature that was sorely missed, even though the interface needs work and it could be a bit more feature rich as a stand alone player. When you’re just trying to listen to some music in game and switch songs on the fly it gets the job done nicely.
The star of the show, the hard working, feature that is dynamite, is obviously Share Play. Or, the thing everybody who ever had a friend that lives hella far away wanted to do whenever they got a new game. If you haven’t heard, Share Play allows you to stream directly to a friends console in your party and they can see in real time your gameplay. If you both have PS Plus then you can hand over control to your buddy and let them play your game remotely. Which in my opinion is pretty freakin’ cool.
PS4 2.0 dropped with a serious bug that caused your PS4 to go a coma instead of Rest Mode. Now, that has been since fixed with v2.01 so no more Nightmare on Elm Street action for PS4 owners (don’t go to sleep eh’).
All in all it’s been a long wait, but in my opinion the system is on it’s way to becoming a unique gaming experience and more than just the latest console.
