The search is on. . .
Metal Gear Solid may get a major overhaul powered by the all-new Fox Engine, used for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V, according to a recent interview conducted with Hideo Kojima during E3 2013. The next installment will introduce a new open-world game design featuring real-time weather, a realistic passage of time and multiple ways to navigate through the vast environments in the game. Kojima notes the open-world “creates a simulation of infiltration. . .a realistic espionage action game”.
Kojima hopes to recreate a similar experience and has been eagerly searching for a studio that could adapt the original Metal Gear Solid to the Fox Engine framework. This could create a whole new dimension of possibilities that were previously impossible with the resources available at the time. It’s safe to conclude that Kojima would ensure the core story remained intact, but just think how epic those first 10 minutes in the game would be if they were expanded upon?
Hopefully, this is just the first phase of his campaign to overhaul several classic Metal Gear games in the franchise as I am sure many fans would agree that the NES editions should have been redefined in next-generation tech long ago. Will this ever happen? That remains to be seen, but if any petitions get developed, they’ll definitely have my vote.
