Nippon Ichi introduces a new puzzle action IP.

NIS America is typically known for its broad selection of conventional anime-themed RPGs. Now the company is looking to explore other genres and htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary, a new IP from Nippon Ichi slated for an exclusive release on the PlayStation Vita.

Set in a labyrinthine ruin, you’ll take the role of a young girl named Mion who awakens alone, lost and apparently has very little cause as to her origin. Then she meets two fireflies, respectively composed of light and dark. The two must work together in order to help Mion recover he memories and ultimately lead her out of the ruins where vicious threats and treacherous traps await.

I am digging the art design which is a nice throwback to the old-school 2D platformer style with a hint of Limbo. As for the story. . .what secrets are locked away in Mion’s lost memories, and what is the connection between her, the ruins and the fireflies? Well that requires additional analysis, but you’ll need to wait till next year for the answers. htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary will debut February 24, 2015.
