Quoth the Gamer: eSports in Peril Pt.1

Progression with an equal amount of setbacks.
This is the side of eSports that literally pains me as a huge supporter. Whether it’s a lack of respect for female gamers, or horrible promotion of the “sport.” There’s so many things wrong with eSports and not enough people willing to regulate it.
For some reason it’s difficult for women to be respected as gamers. In a group where all are equal on the screen, those rules don’t apply to the crowd. Some scenes may be hostile to females, and some countries may be ready to ban them from competition.
There really isn’t any reason for this. The beauty of eSports is that anyone can participate. This is the one thing that separates it from physical sports. There’s no need for a men’s, women’s, and special division. We are all equal in game and we should all be treated as such.
Another thing is the sense of entitlement the pro players have. Nobody owes you anything. Developers will not cater to you if throwing a fit on twitter is how you think you’ll get your way.
I personally don’t believe that developers should take any feed back from any pro gamers. A professional will learn, and adapt. You don’t get paid to work on the game, you get paid to play them. You should be grateful to have your position, and keep improving as a player.
Lastly, I wanted to touch on where players are messing up. I may be wrong, but I don’t see much in the way of them promoting aside from commercials on their stream. There’s really more to it than that. People say you just sit around and press buttons. You’re proving them right.
It is your responsibility to educate people unfamiliar with what you do. To gain new followers to show your commercials to. It’s your responsibility to gain respect for the sport so you can continue to do it. Because if you really cared about it, you would want to see it grow. Stay tuned folks, I’m not done on this topic just yet!
