Quoth the Gamer: eSports in Peril Pt.2

It might just be dollar signs to some.
It’s not just the players and communities guilty of holding eSports back. Organizations only cater to crowds that already have a large following. There’s plenty of competitive games that would draw a crowd if people saw that they were actually being played.
Yes, I understand that it costs money to run events and host web content. I also understand that it makes money. Tickets to these events are pricey. I’m not one to believe that they aren’t profiting if the sponsors are the ones that handle the prize money.
Speaking of which, you would think they’d host more games and have a presence in more places. Inability to travel cuts out a large majority of players. Also, leaving out games like Team Fortress for instance is cutting out competitors from other games.
Putting your eggs in one basket is bad for business. Nearly over night, Halo was dropped as the flagship game years back. The current communities can fall victim to the same if they aren’t grown.
Presentation wise MLG is great, however, they need to cut out some things. They absolutely can not air the team chat. There’s certain amounts of profanity that happen in the heat of battle that won’t ever be ok for television.
Overall, there’s a lot that just needs to change in order for this to grow. There needs to be a bigger presence by the organizations. Players need to be more accepting of each other. Both parties need to educate the uninformed on why they should care. Personally, I wish for the best.
