So the 10-yr Old Smash Sensational Performance Was Faked?

I want to believe. . .but not today.

“Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains. . .

no matter how improbable, must be the truth.”

No, we’re not suggesting that children aren’t capable of doing great things, but read on and we’ll explain.

It’s truly unfortunate how such a delightful story that started off celebrating the alleged exceptional talents of one 10-year old Smash competitor has been tarnished by the reality of being a staged production. The news quickly went viral as a special Gamestop function was hosted this weekend as a special campaign to showcase the upcoming Super Smash Bros. installment for the Wii U. “Karissa the Destroyer” came onto the scene demonstrating some incredible skills putting on a clinic using Sheik, King Dedede and Diddy Kong. Reportedly her dominance also included Rosalina, but footage of those matches were not uncovered in the video. . .and in the end, it doesn’t matter because – we were all duped

Well, all except some diligent detectives from r/Kappa. Perhaps what lead to their suspicion was the fact the young competitor was found at several points looking away from the screen during pivotal moments in the game. Or what about taking her hands off the controller. What sorcery is this?

We’ll call it, theatricality.

“So it was all a performance. . .but was it really necessary?”

Ok, so we get it. A marketing agency takes this opportunity to generate some hype and excitement around the game (not that this particular franchise needs any additional help gaining sales and momentum.) However, it’s hard to shake my personal disappointment of how this all unfolded. I feel it also takes away something away from the genuine value of competitors; young prodigies in particular who are the genuine article. . .not some young “actress” playing it all up with smoke and mirrors.

If you haven’t come across her performance over the weekend, check out the following clips below. And what is your thoughts on the matter? Was the talent agency wrong for carrying this out? Will these events get your more excited to play?

In the second video Karissa takes on noted Smash player and commentator D1.
