Special Edition NYC: The Con Before the Storm

Some comic (book) relief before New York Comic Con.
Last weekend I went to Special Edition NYC a convention that is dedicated to comic books…and only comic books. It was made from the same people that ran huge conventions like PAX and New York Comic Con, but this one in particular was purposely not as big as those. But is a good thing so dedicated comic book can support a hobby without taking twenty minutes to go from booth to booth.
The first thing you will notice about SENYC is that you have less of a crowd to deal with and a smaller show floor. It was definitely intentional from the organizers so attendees would…I don’t know why they made it small. But it was kind of pleasant that I didn’t have to take a ten minute walk to just to go from one booth to another.
When it comes to the marketplace there are pretty much two different types of booths: Artists selling their drawings and Comic stores selling you comic books when you see a bunches and bunches of prints and comics, it is extremely are NOT to by anything from the convention. I got tempted and bought a bought a few comic books, including a two singed books from writer Gail Simone and along with a signed script book for Tomb Raider #4.
I wish Special Edition NYC had a bit more to do. They could have showed off a few comic book-based video games or movies. I mean, the would still go with the comic book theme, right? I mean I like that there are lots of cool stuff to buy but I wish there was more to do besides buy stuff (and panels, of course).
Special Edition NYC was quick fix for those waiting for New York Comic Con…and like comic books a lot. If you are not that into comics and missed this event. You did not miss that much.
