That’s so Random: Tinkering w/Ultra SF4 Uploads

Sharing the virtual fisticuffs with the interwebs.

So we’re on Day Three of Ultra Street Fighter 4 and some users have (surprisingly) discovered that the latest edition now offers players the ability to share their matches directly with the rest of the world via Youtube. For those of you who are familiar with SF3: Third Strike Online Edition, yes – this is exactly the same tool making its official return. And that’s a good (and bad thing.)

For starters, it’s essential that you have an active account. I can’t confirm if it’s essential that 360/PS3 owners need to have the actual app on their device, but it might not hurt since reportedly users have expressed some challenges getting their matches on the social video service (myself included until earlier today.)

You'd be happy to, if these renders were a LOT faster.

You’d be happy to, if these renders were a LOT faster.

So what should you do IF there’s an issue? Buried deep in the settings, you’ll find an option to reset the YT token. This is especially helpful if you own multiple accounts and want to give authorization to a new account. Once this process has been achieved, you’ll get a request to authorize your console so that it can upload directly through the device itself.

I used the “High” setting originally, because, well – who doesn’t want to enjoy matches in high-res? Then I realized, that may not be the best option. Why? Well, it takes forever for the system to render. Unlike those of you that use Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere or some other type of video editing program – these consoles lack the proper rendering muscle to process the task efficiently. In other words – it takes a long time. And if you’ve got a set of matches that are even greater than best 2 out of 3 – expect to be sitting there a long time.

Yeaaaah, my time is TOO precious to me, so I settled on the “Low” setting after 2 attempts just to test if I had been doing something wrong. The render time is about half the time, but naturally there will be some loss in quality – but if you’re not super critical about that and just care more about showing off the content in a quicker fashion – don’t bother toggling the default option to “High”.

Here’s a clip below – we may begin featuring some various highlight clips here on the site as well as some from our partner outlet, Random Select TV (expect to see more of them VERY shortly.)

So what do you think? Solid – or will you just opt for the standard Replay share option, or use something like a standard video capture card? Let  us know in the comments or on our official Facebook page.

(So I don’t know if I’ll stick with this title – but I figured I needed a new column name and the original one just didn’t seem cool enough so yah, for now – we’ll see how this works out. I will be setting a goal to produce a column at least once a week. . .thanks for reading.)
