The June Xbox Development Kit: Killing Em’ Softly

Microsoft, is changing the game with the June XDK.
The Xbox One at launch had a large amount of its hardware resources devoted to the expansive dashboard and software features, and the Kinect. This is changing with the new XDK.
The new June XDK is going to put more power in the hands of developers. And offer more options for resource allocation to developers. So games that are kinect heavy will not fully benefit from these impending changes.
By removing the requirement for the Kinect to be connected to the Xbox One; there is an additional 10% of GPU capacity available for games that don’t use the Kinect. This will prove interesting in the high stakes spec wars of this current generation of consoles.
Games like Destiny, and more hardcore titles will finally see the full power of the AMD Jaguar CPU/GPU hybrid on the Xbox One. This will for the purposes of raw comparisons prove very interesting in the ongoing console spec wars.
With Microsoft tinkering with their console to maximize it’s graphical output, a lot of new possibilities will be opened for developers in the coming year.
This hardware bump will not apply to current games however, but time will tell if previously released games will be retrofitted to take advantage of this improvement.
