Tomo Ohira Discusses Brief History from SF2 Era

One of the community’s most tenured competitors drops some knowledge.

Long before the era of Alex Valle, Justin Wong and Daigo, one player stood out as the most formidable Street Fighter competitors known to the date. Tomo Ohira comes from an era where such names including Valle, John Choi, Graham Wolfe, Jason Wilson, Mike Watson, among a few others actively competed in Street Fighter 2 all the way up to Street Fighter 2 Turbo (Hyper Fighting). Yeah, that was way before many of you were probably even born. . . before Youtube, streams and even the Internet were available resources to level up your game.

The arcade scene was in its peak and legends like Tomo were known to dominate with solid, advanced techniques, exceptional reads and the like. In this short clip, Tomo discusses the first time he came upon someone who was able to successfully unleash the “cross-up”. At the time, techniques like this ultimately changed the dynamic of the game, eventually leading to even more more effective techniques now commonly featured in conventional titles.
