Voice Actor Chikao Ōtsuka Passes Away

Rest in peace.

Voice Actor Chikao Ōtsuka Passes Away

Playing Sonic adventures will never be the same again as the news of Chikao Ōtsuka has passed away at the age of 85. Chikao was widely recognized as the Japanese voice actor for Doctor Eggman and retained the role as the iconic scientist since Sonic Adventure which debuted in 1998. In addition, Chikao was also the Japanese voice actor who gave life to the iconic role of Big Boss in the Metal Gear Solid series.

The talent agency Aoni Productions reported that his death was the result of an ischemic heart failure. It is often customary in the Japanese culture (and in most instances, the entertainment industry itself as was the case with Phil Hartman in The Simpsons) that the character(s) are often retired as a sign of honor for the departed.

Chikao will definitely be missed and we offer our deepest condolences to a legendary man.
