Whose Idea Was It For Pokken Tournament?

Here’s one hint: It wasn’t from anyone from Namco

A Pokemon-based fighting game  is a very unlikely concept. Interestingly, the idea for Pokken Tournament did not come from the Tekken side but from The Pokemon side.

At first, Tekken‘s lead guy Katsuhiro Harada wanted to work on a different project but Pokemon Company’s head Tsunekazu Ishihara said that he wanted to work specifically with Tekken. And that’s how Pokken was born. Eventually other details for the game developed such as including Pokemon of all types (not just Fighting-Types) and SoulCalibur‘s Masaaki Hoshino (who is a huge Pokemon fan) coming on board.

According to Harada, Pokken Tournament is currently at 30% completion. The game is scheduled to hit arcades in 2015.
