Yatagarasu is Rebranded as Legend of Raven, Confirmed for PS Vita

Handheld marathons all day! First screenshots and art available!
At this point, there’s little reason not to own a PS Vita. Especially with all the current digital candy available and additional titles on the way, including a brand new IP fighter that’s become one of the most highly anticipated games in development. Today, Nicalis announced that Legend of Raven, formerly known as Yatagarasu (yes, that game), will be also making its way to the PlayStation Vita during the 4th Quarter and distributed digitally via the PlayStation Network.
Story:
The year was December 25th, 1926. Japan was on the verge of welcoming a new era…the era of “Koubun”.
Instead a revolution broke out, led by those who hoped to revive the Land of the Gods, Japan, and return her to its former glory. The Prime Minister’s cabinet, the police department, the Zaibatsu families, the mass media…the flow of information to the outside world was immediately suppressed.
Out of options, the old government resorted to creating a group of elite assassins, called the “Yatagarasu” in order to maintain order and suppress the rebellion.
These government agents have become known as the “Government’s Dogs” by the general populace. Now, they are on the move towards “Iga-sei”, which is said to still function as the government’s intelligence hub.
Legend of Raven continues Nicalis’ partnerships with ultra-talented and super-awesome independent developers. Previously Nicalis has teamed up with 8bits Fanatics (1001 Spikes), Edmund McMillen (The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth), Studio Pixel (Cave Story, Ikachan), Nicklas Nygren (NightSky), and Terry Cavanagh (VVVVVV).
Over the past few months, its PC counterpart has gained a tremendous amount of fan feedback and support throughout social networks, media and word-of-mouth. And now that a publisher has been secured, Legend of Raven is one step closer from getting into the hands of avid fighting fans very soon. Developed by a small group of former King of Fighters developers, Legend of Raven will feature 8 wonderfully hand-animated characters, created by famed artist Kotani Tomoyuki, local and ad-hoc support, in addition to a whole new soundtrack enhanced from the original production still in production for the PC market.
Players can expect a rich, battle system and a variety of defensive options. For example, parries (referred to “button locking”) allows you to parry an attack and briefly immobilize your opponent. This will then give you an opportunity to attack them with a damaging counter. There will be different types of “button locks”: mid air, high, and low. You need to use the correct “BL” in order to parry the opponent’s attack while pressing forward or up-forward. Timing is said to be fairly strict, so make sure to be on point, otherwise you’ll be open to an attack.
You’ll also be able to “enhance” a variety of special moves prior to the beginning of the match. We’re curious on the specifics on this particular battle system and will update the article as more information become available.
